Murdered by the Maduro regime while in custody at the Venezuelan Justice Palace. Fernando Albán, a Caracas councilman, was arrested at the Maiquetía International Airport upon return from a trip to New York on October 5, 2018. He attended a meeting at the United Nations to denounce the regime’s illegal actions in order to gather support against Maduro’s rule in Venezuela. The country’s Attorney General said that Mr. Albán killed himself on Monday, October 8 of 2018, by leaping from the 10th floor of the state police agency’s headquarters where he was being held for his alleged involvement in a plot to kill Maduro using explosive-laden drones back in August 2018. He was facing the same charges Requesens currently faces. Opposition leaders, backed by several foreign governments and organizations, have cast doubt on the official version and accused the Maduro’s regime of torturing and murdering the politician. Albán’s death is being investigated by the United Nations.
